Exp. 1 – Group B – Page 5

Several people, some » habitués » of the online media, have asked me this question. Others directly told me: how nice your website has been !, when in fact they were referring to the new design of a blog.

To clarify doubts, let’s see what are the main differences between a website and a blog.

Original by Juan Carlos Contreras at http://www.irreverendos.com/?p=1708

CONCEPT

Blog

  • Website or part of it, where they are collected in reverse chronological order, written by one or several authors on topics of interest, and which also includes the comments sent by their readers.

Web page

  • Or Internet page: document containing information (text, images, videos, etc.), which is normally part of a larger one. Its main feature are the connections (hyperlinks or hyperlinks) to other web pages.

MAIN FEATURES

Blog

  • Composed mainly of entries or posts that appear in reverse chronological order . It is usual, also, that each entry admits comments from those who read the post and have the desire to comment on it.

– It can be classified by the topics it deals with (personal, science and technology, race cars, sports journalism, or life of orchids, for example), authors who write on the blog (amateurs or professionals of an area), amount of authors (one or more), etc. At the same time, it may or may not have commercial purposes, and may or may not represent a company (in the latter case, it would be a corporate blog). Several of these possibilities can appear in the same blog: be corporate and be written by a single person, be personal, have commercial purposes and be specialized in software, for example.

– The platform or software that we will use to manage the blog can be free or paid.

– The most common platforms for blogs (Blogger or WordPress) are easy to access and manage, so that almost any Internet user can assemble a basic blog in a few minutes.

– Half of the bloggers in the Spanish blogosphere are from Spain (according to the report of Bitácoras, 2009).

Web page

– A set of web pages make up a website. The website contains information (texts, videos, photographs, etc.) that is updated at a variable frequency (usually not updated daily, unlike many blogs). A web page or the entire website may not allow comments or participation of readers.

– To have a web page of your own it is necessary to «buy a place» (or to host it) on the internet.

– Some technical knowledge is necessary to assemble and manage it.

EXAMPLES

Blog: Internet Passion the blog of Prestigia Online, the blog of Enrique Dans doctor, professor, blogger and columnist, the blog of Nuria Chinchilla, professor, author and author of various books and case studies, Jorge Gobbi’s travel blog, between others.

Web: Prestigia Online, Coca Cola, El País newspaper, Sabadell City Council, New York Tourism, among others.

On the other hand, setting up a blog can have a zero monetary cost and be managed by the person who assembles it, without the need for technical support
